Beginning Music : The Idea

Chances are you already know that early musical exposure is important. Whether your child will grow up seeing himself as a musical individual will largely be determined by how much music is an organic part of his environment. Everyone has some musical ability, and the surest way to set a child on the path to lifelong musical reward is to grow up with music as a natural part of his daily life.

But what does early exposure mean? Does it mean bringing your child to lessons to study an instrument or sing with a group? Certainly, these activities work well at SOME point for SOME children, but these are not the best things for very young children’s initial experiences – certainly not for children 4 and under. So what to do?

In this day and age, when expertise is so highly valued and sought after, the answer will probably surprise you. Regardless of what you currently think about your own musical ability – or lack of it – the fact is that without a doubt YOU are the best qualified person to give your child early musical exposure.

At this point, many of you have probably gone to the mirror and asked, “Is she talking to ME?” Yes, I am talking to YOU. I have met many young parents wondering what to do musically with their toddlers. Some of these parents have had lots of musical training, some of had a little; despite or because of their own musical experiences many label themselves as tone deaf. Regardless of their training or self-perception, most of these smart people have NO IDEA what they might do to introduce their child to music.

The truth is that everything you need to become well-equipped to do musical things with your child is already inside you. All you need an expert for is to show you how to do it. This 8-week course will delve into many facets of music making, help you discover your own musicality and give you the confidence and tools to make music with your child. And it is so EASY! In a short time and with little or no equipment, you will find ways to integrate music into the daily life of you and your child, and making music together will become a natural part of everyday life.

Imagine feeling competent, confident and joyful about doing musical things with your child. You have only to discover the innate musicality that is in you as it is in every human being. From there it is a short step to singing, playing, creating, appreciating and loving music!
